I think Kristi and I are pretty close to that point in this pregnancy where nothing will surprise us anymore. The latest thing we found out is that Kristi now has Bell's Palsy. On Thursday she had a tingle in her tongue but really didn't think much of but then on Friday her whole left side of her face didn't move. Thanks to Julianne she thought it might be Bell's Palsy. We did a little research on the internet and came to the assumption that yes she was probably right, on Monday it was confirmed by the doctor. What it Bell's Palsy?
It's a sudden weakness of one side of the face. It's attributed to the inflammation of the facial nerve. The direct cause is not usually known but it does happen to women who are in there third trimester and to people that have diabetes or upper respirator aliments.
In Kristi's case her paralysis is on the left side of her face. When she smiles only her right side goes up. She can not shut her left eye completely so she does have to wear a patch while she sleeps so the dust and other particles don't do any damage.
The doctor gave her a steroid and antiviral to start the healing process. I guess in most cases people begin recovery in 2-3 weeks with 70-80% of people showing complete recovery in 2-3 months. There is a 10% recurrence rate but we hope that we are in the other 90%. Kristi is being a trooper throughout the whole thing but at the same time I know it's difficult.
We were going to post some pictures of her but decided it just looked to BAD to post!! We are in the final stretch and it's only a matter of time before Easton and Owen are here but stay tuned because how things are going anything can happen.
