Our Projects!

When we moved into our house, 4 years ago I disliked 2 things. The first was our purple tile in our entry way and the second was the mint green color of our house. Now, In the past month they both have changed. We started with the tiling entry way. After doing a little research I found that I could put tile over tile as long as I used a special thin set, the new tile didn't raise the floor too high, and that I roughed up the surface of the old tile. In this picture I'm roughing up the floor with the good old belt sander that use to be Karens, fathers. It might be old but it still works great!! Look at that ugly purple tile.....what were they thinking?

We decided to go with a bigger tile to make the space look a little bigger. The color is Tuscan Rouge, it has some browns with a rustic, orangish color to it. I think it goes along with a lot of the wood work in our house and the other accents that we have. Here I am doing a little grout work.
Here is the finished product. Overall it went pretty good. I really like the way that it turned out but it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. I'm just very thankful that Julianne had bought a wet saw when she remodeled her kitchen because using that was a huge help.

The second was changing the mint green color of our house. This was a much bigger project then I anticipated. I started with pressure washing the house and after you take off a lot of paint off there is really no looking back, I then scraped evey thing that was loose, and spot primed the area's that were down to the wood. Here is a picture of the house kind of in the middle of the process.

During this process there was a couple times that we had to work into the night and I have to say if it wasn't for Nick (Julianne's brother-in-law) I would probably still be out there wondering how I am going to finish. I just want to say, "Nick Thank you for all your help!!"

We painted it a darker green called 'That Green" we stuck with the white trim because we felt it made the green pop a little. This project also turned out pretty good although I have to say I could of thought of a million other ways to spend a week of vacation I am glad just to have it done and not have to worry about it. I will say I think painting a house is probably on my top 5 things I dislike the most. I know it is hard to see a total change in this picture but believe me it looks so much better then it did.

A little different angle!

Here is a little closer picture that shows the green with the white trim.

Looks GREAT RG!! You are quite the little handyman....I wonder where you get that from!!?? I really like the tile color, you do good work. Great night shot up on the roof---was that staged?:) Just kidding. Hats off to good work, and I bet Kristi spent a lot of time with the little munchkins, so hats off to her too.

This looks awesome! Nice work! We still have a little siding to put on the house, you want to come do it? Also, the tile looks fantastic. It's a great feeling to be able to do those things for yourselves, isn't it?
