My Dad's Turn!

Day 29

It was only a short time ago when I decided to sit down with my mom, ask her a couple of questions, and blog about it. In the end I found it to be pretty interesting and had a lot of fun doing it so I thought, why not give my dad a call and do the exact same thing?

Lets get this started!

Ryan : I remember a story that I heard a long time ago about you or someone you were with peed on an electric fence, is that true or what happen?

Dad : Yes, your uncle Gary and I were outside pretending to pee on it and we told Mark, "look it doesn't hurt!" so he peed on it.
Ryan: What happened?

Dad : He jumped up from the shock and when he did his brand new, straw hat flew off his head. The wind caught the hat and blew it into the pig pen where they ate it and besides just getting a shock he also got in trouble because of the pigs eating his hat.

From Left - Uncle Mark / Middle High - Uncle Kenny / Middle Low - My Dad / Far Right - Uncle Gary.

Ryan : I have some great memories of Grandpa but I do have a favorite. I remember a time when we were over at his house and he was watching Wheel of Fortune. After he solved the puzzle he turned and yelled, "Alvina, I could of won a GOD DAMN car!" It was the funniest thing I have ever seen. What type of person was grandpa?

Dad : He was hardworking, honest, had a great sense of humor and all around nice guy.

Ryan : What is one memory that you have of him that you will never forget?

Dad : When he came up and went fishing with us at Mark's (Cele's brother) cabin. That was the first time he ever went camping.

Ryan : First time? Ever? How old was he when that happen?

Dad : 66

(I looked and looked for a picture of Grandpa but I couldn't find one.)

Ryan : What type of person was Grandma?

Dad : She was the head of the household, Dad was working a lot of the time. He was gone when we got up in the morning and he was still at work when we went to bed so she was in charge.

Ryan : Lets say you woke up and you had nothing on the agenda for the day and money wasn't an issue, what would you do?

Dad : If it's just for a day I would go to Itasca State Park. If it was longer I would fly out to Washington and see you guys
Dad and I after putting in our new windows!

Ryan : What was your first car.

Dad : a Blue 1959 Chevy Bisuane.

This is NOT a picture of his car but a picture of that type of car. Look at the thing, It's AWESOME!

Those are some wings!

Ryan : What type of condition was it in?

Dad : It was a nice car except I had to tape the headlights in.

Ryan : Why was that?

Dad : That's the way it came. I paid $250.00 for it!

Dad and Sons!

Ryan : I have always told myself if I am 1/10th of the father you are I will be just fine. What would be your best advice.

Dad : Don't take things so serious. When you get up in the morning decide what your going to invest in the day ahead.

Ryan: How long have you been doing carpentry?

Dad : Since I was 16!

Ryan : Sixteen? How did you get started so young?
Dad : A man named Lester Carlson came out to our farm to work on Dad's barn and I was helping him. While we were working he asked, if I wanted a job? The only problem was that he found out that I wasn't 16 yet and at that time you couldn't get insurance on anyone under the age of 16 so my Dad decided that I should work with him and that he would pay me every week until I turned 16. Then I got a job.

Ryan : Do you love it?

Dad : Ya, I like creating things.

Ryan : Another memory I kind of remember is of a car we used to have, where I think the backseat floorboard were all rusted out and we could literaly see the road under are feet. Did we have a car like that and what happen to it?

Dad : Yes, our old 69 - 70 ford Pinto we got it from Uncle Kenny for 1,200 and we sold it.

Ryan : When mom was here, I asked her where the name Poonie came from? When we did some research we found out Poonie also means "Vagina". What is your response to that?

Dad : She was a good one!!

Ryan : That's my dad!!

While searching for some pictures I came across this one of Cele and my dad. I thought it was a great picture so I had to post it!
